What the hell Jinnah has to do with our country now???

How does it matter that Jinnah was a secular leader or not??? How does it affect our daily lives??? The person concerned is resting and let him rest in peace. If there are books on him, they are the personal opinions of the book writers and they have the right to pen down their opinions. And if they don’t, then the freedom of speech is just a point in the constitution which looks good only on reading but its implementation....
So why such a hue and cry on the thoughts of Mr. Jaswant Singh to the extent that even his book has been banned. If he feels that Jinnah was a good man than what’s the harm in that. BJP has a history of producing controversial leaders. Be it Uma Bharti or Varun Gandhi or Lal Krishna Advani or Arun Shourie or Jaswant Singh. So what’s up with these high class leaders of BJP. They are critically analysing a historic character (which is of no use), then they go on to publish a book containing this analysis, then they fight internally to ban the book and then the party dismisses these leaders which have been there for 30 long years. What’s happening to our democracy??? Or is it just a ploy by the BJP leaders to change their image from the Hindu pro party to a more secular one. If this is the case then they are seriously troubling their interests with the RSS.
I am not against BJP or Congress for that matter. I just want to see these parties as strong as they can be so that Indian voters have two healthy alternatives to chose from. However after the elections, BJP chose the path of slow death or the path of suicide to be very precise, which is not only harmful for the party but for the entire nation. Because if the voters don’t have any other alternative to vote for, then it will become a sort of monopoly for the single party that remains i.e. Congress.
While history is just to study and be informed about and not to be worried about, the most important concern should be the present and the future. Are we running out of issues that we have to discuss those issues which have no relevance at all in the country’s growth? At the time when the entire world is thinking about growth our honourable leaders are busy extracting the dead bodies out of the coffin. Why don’t they debate the trivial issues of poverty, employment, economic growth, infrastructure, education with the same intensity as they are debating the non sense issue of Jinnah?

  1. Jinnah....would haven't been discuss that much in India in last 6 decades than in last 6 days. And that too for a useless issue, another one from BjP. It seems that they are never going to discuss or come up with something constructive or beneficial for the nation. I strongly agree with the author that it is hampering with progress of nation as we really need a strong & powerful opposition to keep everything on track. Is this the appropriate time for a new party to emerge, probably a young & dynamic one which is aware & concerned with critical issues like health, education, infrastructure, sanitation, nutition etc etc etc. Because on one hand we tell say"India Shining" & on the other blaming & covering our partymates. But the big question that very few have answer to is whether there should be any upper limit to the retirement age of politicians? well there are endless questions to be answered.........lets hope that some fine day our leaders will look beyond their personal egos & fights & contribute the growth & development of the nation.

  2. I agree with Ankit that we have more important issues to get into rather then these ones. But I think we can't expect from these political parties to stop all this and start looking for the progress of the country. After all their primary objective is to get into power and make money.

Just thinking what is wrong and right will nor solve the purpose, bcoz if we think these parties will stop it, we are fools. Whether they do it intentionally or un-intentionally, lets not get into that. Let us think what should be done to avoid them from doing these foolish things. First, media should not give so much mileage to all this, after all the primary purpose of the parties is itself solved when they get into front page of newspapers for 15 days.

Secondly, there should be a restriction on these type of activities by law. You can't just do anythng and get escaped. Mr. Advani should remember that he also made such remarks and then apologised and now he is trying to make the law for other for the same thing, what rubbis is this. These issues should be resolved by external party, as now parties can plot inb/w themselves and enact the drama. Expel me today and I will re-join after 1 yr. A politician once expelled shouldn'r be allowed to join any party in future.

And lastly, I agree that being in a democratic country, anyone can say anything, but when it comes to people like famous personalities, celebrities, it touches lives of so many people. These are the people who make law of the country, they should make their opinions expressed in somewhat more responsible manner.
If I say something today, nobody will read it, atmost a few friends, but if tomorrow say Mr. Amitabh Bachchan says samething, 100 crore people will listen to it.

Likewise in Australia hundreds of Indian students are suffering daily, they are beaten up, and even few of those my countrymen died with dreams in their eyes. But the bigger news is that Shahrukh Khan was made to wait for 1-2 hrs at American airport for security check. Aren't we human, why media gave so much hype to this incident instead of raising voice for my friends in Australia.
